Every country under the IPMA umbrella interprets the IPMA guiding principles into their own National Competence Baseline (NCB) adopting it to national culture.

In Denmark the book "Competenies in Project Management", is the Danish National Competence Baseliner (NCB), based on the  IPMA Competence Baseline.

Peak Learning offers Project Management training focused on covering the IPMA - NCB areas, so that delegates can build op the professional and personal skills required for IPMA D, C and B-level. Though, the level a delegate can take, also depends on the number of years of practical experience.

IPMA is the leading project certification in Europe, only surpassed by PRINCE2®.

IPMA and PRINCE2

PRINCE2 has a structured proces approach to Project Management, where IPMA is based on standards and guiding principles for Project Management, and are based around practical experience, acquired professional and people skills and behavior - thus covering both 'Hard' and 'Soft' Project Management skills.

IPMA and PRINCE2 complements each other, which is the reason that an agreement of cooporation has been entered between The IPMA and the APM Group Ltd, with the purpose that PRINCE2® is recognised as a qualification for IPMA® level C and D. 


The 5 core competence areas that IPMA is based on

1. To plan and evaluate projects
2. To understand the management phase of a project
3. To exercise Project Management control
4. To exercise operational Project Management
5. To lead the organizations project processes

 IPMA consists of 4 certification levels

• IPMA D
  Requires that the candidate has and can apply knowledge on Project Management, the theory as well as ledership behavior, and has 1 year of experience as project manager or project participant. 
  
  D-certification consists of
     1) Filling out self evaluation and application form
     2) Written exam
  
  
• IPMA C
  Requires that the candidate is competent in leading smaller complex projects and can assist Project Manager with high complex projects, and has 3 years of Project Manager experience.
  
  C-certification consists of
     1) Filling out self evaluation and application form
     2) Written exam
     3) Participation in a one-day case workshop
     4) Interview
  
  
• IPMA B
  Requires that the candidate is competent to lead complex projects with many subprojects, stakeholders and organizational units involved, and has 5 years of project management experience, including project managing complex projects of a duration of minimum 3 man years.
  
  B-certification consists of
    1) Filling out self evaluation and application form
    2) Written exam
    3) Delivery of a projekt report
    4) Interview
  
  
• IPMA A
  Requires that the candidate has a wide and deep understanding of a companys project processes, including leading a project portfolio and/or managing Programmes. The candidate has competencies within Strategic Management and is a project proces quality champion. The candidate must have minimum 5 years of experience with leading the companys project processes that impacts on a number of projects and programmes
  
  A-certification consists of
    1) Filling out self evaluation and application form.
    2) Written exam
    3) Delivery of a case project report
    4) Exam in chosen themes and interview.
